- Who is mentioned in Revelation 1:1, and what are their tasks?
- Can you say what John is doing and why? What is John writing about?
- What is meant by "for the time is at hand" in Revelation 1:3? Which time is meant? (Compare to Mat 4:17, Mat 26:18)
- What do the seven Spirits which are before His throne represent in Revelation 1:4? (compare to Revelation 1:20)
- Where and how does Jesus appear in Revelation 1? How is He described there? Can you make a list of attributes?
- "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." (Revelation 1:7 KJV) Compare it to Matthew 24:30. What does it mean?
- Try to find other verses where God and clouds are mentioned. What do clouds usually represent?
- How does John introduce himself? Why was he on Patmos?
- What is Jesus' voice compared to in 1:10? Where else in the Bible are trumpets mentioned, and what a symbolical meaning do they have?
- By which words does Jesus introduce Himself?
- What do the seven golden candlesticks represent in Revelation 1:12?
- Where does John see Jesus first, and what does this picture suggest?
- How is Jesus clothed in John's vision there, and does it have a symbolical meaning (Rev 1:13)?
- What about His hair? White like wool, as white as snow - is there a symbolical meaning?
- What about His eyes? They were as a flame of fire (Rev: 1:14). Try to find other verses in the Bible were this is mentioned (it turns up thrice in Revelation, for example).
- Do Jesus' feet "like unto fine brass" mean something?
- What is His voice compared to? Find other verses where water has a symbolical meaning.
- What do the seven stars in Rev 1:16 represent? Where exactly are they in John's vision?
- What is the symbolical meaning of the sharp two-edged sword in Revelation 1:16 that comes from Jesus' mouth? Do you know of other verses where this image turns up?
- What is His countenance in Revelation 1:16 compared to? Are there other verses?
- What do you think why John fell at Jesus' feet as dead in Revelation 1:17?
- What does Jesus mean by it when he says, "I am the first and the last, I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore"?
- Why does Jesus lay His right hand on John?
- There are keys mentioned in chapter 18. What does Jesus tell John about them? What does it say about Jesus?
- Which things was John to write down? How many aspects of time can you see there? (Rev 1:19)
- What is the mystery that Jesus reveals in the end of Rev 1:20
- The number 7 appears a few times in this chapter. How often, and in which connection?

I have made a list of questions that might be helpful to understand Revelation Chapter 1 (not going into detail regarding the seven churches, because chapter 2 and 3 deal a lot with them):
